How To Use:

Enter your page's meta title, meta description and url into the tool to immediately get a preview of what your page will look like when it ranks in Google's SERPS (Search Engine Results Page).

You should get these values directly from the page itself to make sure it's tagged correctly. If your page is marked up correctly with valid structured data, Google might add some modifications to the listing such as the coveted star rating or publishing date for example. If you are trying to decorate your listing with any of these add ons (and you should, the effect on CTR is unbelievable!), then you can enable them in our tool under the ‘Display Options' feature.

How Do Google SERPs work?

Google SERPs operate on complex algorithms that rank websites based on various factors, including relevance, authority, and user experience. When a user starts a search query, Google's algorithms try to discern the intent of the query, then presents a ranked list of the websites it determines to be most relevant.

Understanding these algorithms and tailoring your content to meet Google's criteria is an art that takes years to learn and even longer to master. If you work with our SEO team you'll have access to a seasoned team of veterans who have survived many core updates.

How Do Meta Tags Affect Google Rankings?

While SERP features and meta titles are important, they are not the most important factor in the way Google ranks pages. Content is and and has always been king. Writing compelling, informative and authoritative content, and refreshing your existing content is the best way to rank well. That being said, even the best content strategy would fall flat if the meta titles & descriptions aren't optimized.

If you're trying to grow your business the SEO way and you're not ready to get started on a content strategy (and you're not ready to call the pros yet 😉), a great first step would be to optimize the meta titles and descriptions of currently ranking pages. If your meta titles align well with your content and are visually appealing (don't forget to check your competitor's listings), then your CTR should definitely increase.

How Long Can My Meta Titles Be?

Search Engine Land says that in 2023 Google tends to show 68 characters maximum. Don't panic if most of your title tags are over this. If they are too long, Google may rewrite them or simply cut off the remainder. Keep in mind that even if this occurs, it doesn't hurt your rankings. It's more important that your title tag is targeting your keywords.

If you want your title to be displayed in its entirety, try to keep the title tag between 55-60 characters.

How Long Can My Meta Descriptions Be?

Google specifies that there is no limit on how long a meta description can be. Similar to the title tag however, if you want your meta description to be displayed in its entirety, you should keep your meta descriptions less than 160 characters. Google will often rewrite your meta description for the SERPs, but if it thinks that your provided meta description is an accurate representation of your page's content, there is a higher chance that it will be shown. A good rule of thumb is to keep the character count less than 320 characters maximum.

How To Craft Perfect Title Tags And Meta Descriptions

To generate perfect title tags, incorporate relevant keywords while maintaining brevity and clarity. Your meta description should serve as a concise summary of your webpage's content, highlighting its relevance to a user's query and encouraging users to click through.
